What is Megaminer?

Megaminer is a team-based artificial intelligence programming competitions with a focus on strategy heuristics, though previous winners have applied classical AI techniques to win. For 24 hours, the teams will develop a game AI for a unique game API. The development time is concluded by a tournament among the competitors, with prizes for the winner. Megaminer 4 is on November 7th, 12:00pm to November 8th, 12:00 pm, and will be held in Centennial Hall 105, on the campus of Missouri S&T.

Environment:

Teams are composed of two or three people, and are given at least two (Windows) computers, with shell accounts to Linux boxes available. The competition room is organized in pods, with 1 or 2 teams to a pod.

Languages:

C, C++, Java, Python. We’ll also try to honor any requests for new language bindings.

Game:

It’s a secret. I can tell you that the theme for this competition is time travel, though.

Arena:

Perhaps the most fun aspect of the competition is the arena. Throughout the competition, teams can submit their AIs to the arena. The arena constantly runs games between teams, visible to all.

Tournament:

After the development time, there will be a McMahon style tournament with initial rankings based upon number of wins in the arena.

Cost:

$10 per team (but we give you food for 24 hours!)
