MinerLAN

November 10th, 2009

Registration for MinerLAN is now open. The registration fee is only $5 and $2.50 for ACM members. This year’s MinerLAN will features Warsaw, Starcraft, Armagetron and Trackmania Nations Forever. If your favorite game is not in the above list, don’t worry as we will assist in getting people together to play a match of your favorite game.

This year’s MinerLAN is sponsored by Express Scripts.

Applied Research in Networking – October 21

October 14th, 2009

Join ACM this Wednesday as we host Dr. Sedigh as she gives a presentation on Applied Research in Networking.

The increasing ubiquity of computer networks has led to
interesting and diverse research in applications of networking, and vice
versa. We will discuss a number of areas where this research has been
particularly fruitful, including sensor networks for environmental
monitoring and intelligent critical infrastructure systems.

Dr. Sahra Sedigh is an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Research Investigator with the Intelligent Systems Center at the Missouri University of Science & Technology.

Cerner – October 7

Join ACM this Wednesday as we host Amanda Mechlin of Cerner. She is the current Director of the Internal IT group at Cerner and the presentation will focus on several projects her team is currently working on. In addition she will be talking about some of the careers available at Cerner.

ACM MegaMinerAI

October 1st, 2009

The Semestly AI Tournament is scheduled for November 7. This semester’s theme is time travel, and to win the game competitors will have to travel through time to defeat their opponents. For more information check out the website for MegaMiner AI.

Join us on September 23 when we host Ian Eyberg as he talks about the NoSQL movement. Pizza and Soda will be provided!

Ian Eyberg graduated from college here at Missouri S&T when it was currently called UMR, and he was the progenitor of SIG-Security.

Reflections|Projections & Mechmania

September 15th, 2009

Reflections|Projections provides a great opportunity for a weekend full of fun and expanding your knowledge. We will be organizing a group to attend Reflections|Projections, if you are interested in attending, please attend a meeting in the next couple weeks. If you are unable to attend a meeting, feel free to email an officer.

The Association for Computing Machinery at the University of Illinois is hosting its 15th annual computing conference on October 16-18, 2009. Reflections | Projections is an opportunity for us to bring together students from across the country to gain a broader perspective on computer science in the presence of some of the great minds of today and yesterday. Throughout the weekend, we’ll have several speakers from across the country (from industry and academia alike), a programming competition from in-house developers (MechMania), and a job fair for students and companies in Computer Science.

ACM Student Design Showcase – TONIGHT

September 9th, 2009

Join ACM tonight as we host our annual Student Design Showcase. Learn about the design teams around campus, including Solar House, Robotics and the S&T AI team. In addition, ACM will be discussing our projects, the soda machine and the ACM Christmas lights project! So come to CS 209A at 7 PM to learn how you can get involved. There will be refreshments provided.
